Our Guide to Removing Carpet Stains

Are stubborn carpet stains causing you trouble? We know they can be stressful and annoying to try and remove. Plus, if they aren’t cleaned, they house bacteria and pollutants while damaging the cosmetic appeal of your carpet and home. All Clean ChemDry luckily has the solutions you need to get rid of those stains once and for all! Stains come in all shapes and sizes, along with different causes, so knowing the right approach to clean them is ideal for removing that stain as efficiently as possible without permanently damaging your carpet.

Catch Those Stains Early

Did you spill or drop something on your carpet? If you can, it’s best to clean it up immediately before the drink’s components, food, dirt, or chemicals start to set in. Allowing a stain to set in will become much more challenging to remove through DIY methods.

Harsh Chemicals is a No-Go!

Before removing any stains, try not to use harsh chemicals that might fade the color of your carpet or ruin its texture. For every stain-cleaning method using harsh chemicals, there is an alternative, greener, and healthier method. Harsh chemicals can also permanently damage your carpet, even if the stains are removed, through discoloring the carpet or ruining the carpet’s fabric.

Different Stains Require Different Methods

There are plenty of different types of stains, from your pets who aren’t potty trained yet to a simple spill of orange juice. But the fix for each of those stains isn’t the same. There are three different types of stains you can have on your carpet: oil-based stains, water-soluble stains, and protein-based stains. Each of these stains requires different methods; even then, a carpet cleaner might need to remove them. We provided you with a guide for each type of stain and the typical causes for these types of stains for you to refer to so you won’t have to panic when an accident happens!

Oil-Based Stains:

These are abit tougher to remove, but one method might work. Place baking soda on the stain and let it sit for 15 minutes. After 15 minutes, vacuum that area. If the stain is still there, call All Clean ChemDry to help remove it! Oil-based stains include makeup and grease stains.

Water-Soluble Stains:

These are the easiest to remove by simply blotting the stain with a wet cloth soaked in hot water. Examples of water-soluble stains include food, soda, juice, ice cream, and feces.

Protein-Based Stains:

To remove this stain, you should make a cleaning solution that mixes cold water, a splash of white vinegar, and dish soap. Once you have a small bowl of the cleaning solution, dip a cloth inside it and start scrubbing where the stain is. You might have to repeat this process multiple times to remove the stain. And if the stain is still there after repeated scrubbing, we recommend calling us to make that stain disappear! Protein-based stains include blood, urine, or vomit stains.

Other stains are a bit harder to remove and most likely would require carpet cleaning services. Those such stains are:

  • Pet Urine Stains
  • Coffee Stains
  • Gum and Wax Stains
  • Tannin Stains

These stains tend to seep into your carpet more quickly plus require equipment that most households do not have. Fortunately, All Clean ChemDry has the equipment and technology to remove any stain!
